Mr_ChingWaimea College is committed to providing a high-quality education for its students and emphasises the importance of achieving personal standards of excellence in academic, sporting, cultural and recreational activities.

 

The College opened in 1957 and is very proud of the reputation it has established for providing opportunities for its students to experience success both in and beyond the classroom.

 

The College combines excellent facilities and a progressive curriculum with values such as house spirit, pride in the school and high expectations of performance and behaviour. These values are reflected in the school motto Semper Contendite (Always Strive).

Relay for Life

Have you noticed a purple pig in your shopping? Currently Wilbur has been at Queen St Fruit and Veges where Misharna Page works. Soon you may see one at South Fuels in Spring Grove and at the Nelson Hospital, all helping Misharna reach her goal of raising $2000 for the Nelson Cancer Society Relay for Life. Read more here to see what Misharna, her Ninja Team and Wilbur have been doing.

Gate students do beautiful work

Year 10 GATE students are transforming Bell island spit into a nature filled haven by planting thousands of natives and creating roosting area for birds, a project that will take years. Read more here...

Virtual guest speakers treated the 2011 leavers with some wisdom at this year's prize giving.

 

There were four speakers:

  1. Hap Cameron (Africa)
  2. Lucy English (England)
  3. Jelena Vucinic (USA)
  4. Aaron Clements (Canada)

Waimea College students cleaned up at the Tasman district heats of the SGCNZ University of Otago Sheilah Winn Shakespeare Festival on Saturday. Nineteen of the twenty five prizes on offer were gobbled up the young thespians of Waimea.

 

Monique Clementson won a swag of prizes and gained direct entry into the National Secondary Production. James Vanner, best actor, and Lauren Lines, best supporting actor, claimed two of the highly sort after prizes of the festival. 

 

Well done to all the students, their teachers and as always the people behind the scenes that help to make it happen.
