Curriculum Week

In 2011 we are trialling a new learning initiative called “Curriculum Weeks.” The timetable changes to create three lessons per day, each lasting 1 hour and 40 minutes for one week in Terms 1, 2 and 3.

The rationale behind this is to provide an opportunity to enrich learning for students with additional time to learn outside the usual classroom environment.  Following the philosophy of the new curriculum, teachers are aiming to develop their students’ key competencies through real-world experiences related to specific learning areas. There is also a chance for practical subjects to provide students with a valuable length of time on project work.

Activity examples include: Key practical sessions in Science; Geography or Biology field visits; Social Studies visiting museum; Physical Education – at local recreation facilities; interclass group quiz competitions; urban Art projects; added time for practical Drama performances, Technology and Design projects and speeches in English.
