Press Release – Waimea College Announces New Tumuaki (Principal)
The Waimea College Board of Trustees is delighted to announce the appointment of Fraser Hill to the role of Principal (Tumuaki) of Waimea College.
Following the resignation of Scott Haines earlier in the year to take up the role of Principal at Burnside High School, the Waimea College Board of Trustees has undertaken an extensive consultation and recruitment process to find our new Principal.
Fraser, who describes himself as a community focussed leader, is the current Principal of Rototuna Junior High School, a large co-educational junior high school of 1300+ students on a Year 7-13 campus that is shared with Rototuna Senior High in Hamilton.
“I have been a Principal for 14 years and have been in education for over 27 years. I am proud of my achievements as both a teacher and school leader and look forward to sharing my experience and knowledge with the students, staff, and the wider Waimea community. I feel both excited and privileged to be taking on the role of Principal at Waimea College early next term.”
“Outside of school, I am married to Susan, who is also a teacher, and we have three grown children who are all doing their own thing now. While Susan and I grew up in the Waikato in the town of Te Awamutu, we have previously spent 8 years living in the South Island and are looking forward to returning. I am a keen ocean swimmer and am still involved with cricket and look forward to opportunities to connect with people in the wider Richmond area.”
Board Presiding Member Joanne Kininmonth commented “we are very excited to have Fraser join Waimea College to lead the school with its proud tradition of achievement, both academic and co-curricular. Fraser has a wealth of experience in both teaching and leadership. Having gained considerable recognition from his colleagues for leading the most innovative school in Hamilton, it was clear he has the right balance of knowing when change is needed, without making change for change’s sake. Fraser’s experience in developing curriculum with his focus on students as well as best practice evidence and research, will also ensure every learner continues to have the opportunity to excel. It was very important that the new principal/tumuaki aligned with our school values. Fraser’s strong work ethic, passion for growing people, and empathy towards others will make him a great asset to Waimea College”.
Fraser will formally take up the role of Principal of Waimea College early in Term 3, 2023.
